Hoda Barakat is an acclaimed Lebanese novelist. Her works, written in Arabic, have been translated into more than fifteen languages. Her works have won numerous prizes, including the Al-Naqid prize in 1990, the Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 2001, and the International Prize for Arabic Fiction longlist in 2012 for her novel, The Kingdom of this Earth. Hoda was recently appointed the Arabic Scolar in Residence in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas, Austin.
Sinan Antoon is a poet, novelist and associate professor at the Gallatin School of New York University. He has published two collections of poetry and three novels, the second of which, The Corpse Washer was recently translated and published by Yale University Press. His last novel, Ya Maryam, was shortlisted for the 2012 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. He is co-founder and co-editor of Jadaliyya.
